Automatic gate opening on arrival

The best trigger point is not directly on the gate. The system needs to recognise the correct approach earlier and account for the motor opening time.

In short

Gate Auto Open can use a GPS wake zone, the actual arrival zone and direction of travel so the command can be sent before the car stops at the gate.

Terms used in the app

GPS wake-up
An orange zone used to prepare more accurate location before the actual opening zone. A wake-up zone is not an opening command by itself.
Opening zone
A green zone on the route. Arrival zones can appear as AR1, AR2… and a departure zone as DP. Place it early enough to give the gate motor time to open.
Gate
The gate point and its saved control method: GSM phone call, SUPLA direct link or another HTTP/HTTPS link.
Phone readiness
A panel that checks background location, Bluetooth, notifications and battery settings required by the selected setup.

Why the opening point should be before the gate

If the command is sent only when the car reaches the gate, the driver may already be waiting in front of a closed entrance. Allow for location refresh time, command delivery and the time the motor needs to move. The Opening zone is therefore normally placed earlier on the approach road.

There is no universal distance. It depends on speed, road geometry, motor opening time and local GPS quality.

GPS wake-up before the arrival zone

The orange GPS wake-up prepares the phone before it reaches the green arrival zone. The wizard can propose locations based on the route, but real drives should confirm that the phone has enough time to obtain a fresh position.

Faster roads need earlier wake-up and opening points; a short slow residential approach can use smaller distances.

Several roads to one gate

One large zone is often worse than several targeted zones when a property can be approached from different directions. Gate Auto Open supports multiple arrival points and direction checks so a nearby road does not look like the correct approach.

Drive each route separately and make sure the intended zone is reached at a natural place.

From route recognition to the command

When the app has the required driving context and reaches the relevant Opening zone, it triggers the saved gate-control method: GSM, SUPLA or HTTP/HTTPS. The command should be sent before the gate, but the app does not confirm the physical position of the gate leaf.

How to perform a useful arrival test

Test at normal speed with the phone screen locked, because that is how the app will be used every day. If opening is late, check Phone readiness and diagnostics/history before simply enlarging the zone. This avoids hiding a permissions problem with an oversized trigger area.

Key points

  • Measure the real full opening time of the gate motor.
  • Place the arrival Opening zone early enough for speed and GPS refresh.
  • Place the GPS wake-up even earlier.
  • Use separate arrival zones/directions for genuinely different approach roads.
  • Test with the screen locked and at normal driving speed.

Common questions

How many metres before the gate should opening start?

There is no single correct value. It depends on speed, motor time, GPS quality and road layout. Start with the wizard and adjust after real drives.

Can the opening zone be directly on the gate?

It can, but it is usually too late. Give both the phone and the motor some time margin.

Why use direction of travel?

It helps distinguish a real approach from driving nearby in another direction.

Can one zone cover two roads?

Sometimes, but separate zones are usually easier to tune when the roads are clearly separated.

What if GPS is consistently late in one place?

Move the GPS wake-up earlier and check Phone readiness. Buildings, trees, battery policy and Android location timing can affect fresh fixes.
