Privacy Policy

1. Controller and contact

The controller for data related to Gate Auto Open is Handelshage AS, organisation no. 925 480 592, Ramstadsletta 24, 1363 Høvik, Norway.

2. Data processed on our server

To operate accounts and service access, the server may store account data, technical installation data and information required for the free trial and subscriptions.

• account: email address, secure password hash, optional display name, language, account status and access-related dates;
• device and security: pseudonymised installation and App Set ID identifiers, device key/fingerprint, manufacturer, model, Android/app version and Play Integrity results when enabled;
• abuse prevention: pseudonymised device identifiers, a free-trial-used marker and technical security-decision data;
• subscription: product ID, status, dates, order identifiers and a protected purchase token used to verify Google Play purchases; Gate Auto Open does not receive full payment-card details;
• password reset: a technical reset token and its expiry.

3. Location and data kept on the phone

Gate Auto Open accesses precise location, including background location, to detect arrival and departure, operate configured zones and send the opening command when the conditions configured by the user are met.

During normal automation, GPS position, trip history, opening history, gate phone number, opening links, opening method and Bluetooth assignments are processed locally on the phone and are not automatically uploaded to the administrator panel.

You can revoke location permission in Android settings. Without the required permissions, automatic background opening may not work.

4. Maps and route calculation

The app uses OpenStreetMap maps. When a map is displayed, the map server may receive normal network data such as your IP address and information about the requested map area.

The Arrival Auto Wizard may send route start and end coordinates to the public OSRM service (router.project-osrm.org) to calculate the road route. OSRM does not receive your account email, gate phone number or opening link from Gate Auto Open.

Normal day-to-day gate opening does not depend on OSRM and does not require sending your route to that service.

5. Optional zone-configuration support

If you explicitly use Help with zone setup, the app uploads the map of one selected place: points, coordinates, radii, directions, problem description and, optionally, redacted diagnostic logs from the current buffer.

The request does not contain the gate phone number, opening URLs, opening method or car Bluetooth identifiers. The submitted data is used only to prepare and return a proposed zone configuration.

6. Purposes and legal bases

We process account and technical service data to provide the service requested by the user. Security and anti-fraud data is processed for our legitimate interest in protecting accounts, the service and the free trial from abuse. Billing data is processed to provide subscriptions and, where applicable, meet legal and accounting obligations. Support data is processed at the user's request to resolve the reported issue.

7. Recipients

Data is disclosed only to the extent needed for the selected feature. This may include Google Play for billing, Play Integrity and device security, OpenStreetMap when loading maps, and the public OSRM service when the route wizard is used. Infrastructure providers may also process data on our behalf where required to operate the service.

We do not sell location data or account data to advertisers and we do not use it for advertising profiles.

8. Security

The Gate Auto Open app communicates with our server over HTTPS. Passwords are stored as secure hashes, and sensitive tokens are encrypted or hashed according to their purpose. Gate-opening credentials are designed to remain locally on the phone.

If you deliberately configure your own HTTP URL as an opening method, traffic to that endpoint is not protected by HTTPS encryption. Use HTTPS whenever the controller supports it.

9. Retention and deletion

Account data is kept while the account exists. Zone-configuration support requests are kept with the account until they are removed earlier or the account is deleted.

Deleting the account in the app removes server-side account data and the local app configuration on that device. Deleting the account on the website removes server-side data, but the website cannot remotely erase data that exists only on a previously used phone; that local data can be removed by clearing app data or uninstalling the app.

After account deletion, we may retain a minimal pseudonymised device identifier with a free-trial-used marker and any necessary security-block flag. This is used only to prevent abuse and does not contain your email address, password, gate-opening credentials or location history.

Certain technical or billing records may be retained longer only where necessary for security, fraud prevention or legal obligations.

10. Your rights

Where provided by the GDPR, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also complain to the competent data-protection authority; in Norway this is Datatilsynet.

11. Website analytics and consent

On the public Gate Auto Open website we may use Google Analytics 4 to measure visits, traffic sources, viewed pages and basic technical browser/device information. We use this only to understand website traffic and improve the site.

Google Analytics is loaded only after you give consent in the website notice. If you decline, Google Analytics code is not loaded. Your choice is stored locally in your browser and can be changed again through Analytics settings in the website footer.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when features, providers or legal requirements change. The current version is always published at this address.
